What is Colonic Irrigation

It is an internal bath of purified water that helps cleanse the entire colon from rectum to caecum. It facilitates the removal of stagnant faecal matter and subsequent proliferation of bacteria and their toxins, along with gas, mucous and cellular debris. This allows the colon to perform its natural functions of absorption and assimilation optimally. This treatment dates back to biblical times and has been used in traditional naturopathic medicine ever since. It has become more important in our lives today as many problems are caused by pollution of the air and water: poor diet and the stresses of today’s "fast moving" lifestyle.

How Can Colonic Irrigation Help

Over the course of years, an average person should have upto 3 bowel movements per day, when this doesn't happen over the course of a year you could be missing out on 864 movements. This can lead to a build up of waste matter and can lead to other health and or well being issues, from skin complexion, tiredness (lethargy). Many people have said that a Colon Therapy is a waste of time, that this is what the colon is for, getting rid of waste matter. But if you think that over time in your house, the pipes that come out of all of your washing machines, dishwashers, sinks etc gather masses of dirt, grease etc that build up to eventually block the whole system so these need to be cleaned. It is the exact same with your Colon. With modern living it has made Natures Job much harder, this is a way to give mother nature a helping hand.

Benefits of Colonic Irrigation (Hydrotherapy)

If the colon is congested and not removing waste at the normal rate the result is that toxins remain in the body and can be reabsorbed into the system leading to many of the following conditions – constipation – flatulence and bloating – irritable bowel syndrome – diarrhoea – mucous colitis – spastic colon – diverticulitis – weight problems – liver sluggishness – skin problems – allergies – fatigue - headaches – halitosis (bad breath) – haemorrhoids – asthma. Colon Hydrotherapy has been very successful in alleviating many of the above conditions.
Complex conditions such as Crohn’s disease, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) and intestinal Candida are also helped by the resultant detoxifying effect of colon hydrotherapy.
It is an easy, non-chemical completely effective way of preparing for diagnostic studies such as endoscopy, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy and barium enema.
It is extremely useful in alcohol and drug detoxification enhancing the elimination of toxins from the colon and bloodstream.

The Treatment

Following a detailed health and lifestyle assessment the individual’s health concerns and objectives are discussed. Then the treatment begins. A small disposable speculum is inserted into the rectum. This is connected to a water inlet and a waste outlet. Ultra-pure filtered water at a carefully regulated temperature is introduced under gentle massage techniques using essential oils facilitates the removal of impacted waste. The therapist works progressively around the colon until the caecum is reached. Herbal infusions, aloe vera, dissolved supplements, organic coffee and probiotic implants are instilled where appropriate to stimulate peristalsis and assist bowel clearance. The evacuation tube is viewed by the therapist which enables the identification of certain digestive conditions such as fermentation and Candida. The treatment takes approximately 45-60 minutes.
